This traditional basket is crafted as an offering to Mother Earth before the harvest, during the Full Moon before Diwali. Deevaru women prepare a variety of delicacies throughout the night and fill these handwoven cane baskets with the food, along with their jewelry—including the sacred tali—before performing a special pooja and sharing a meal in the fields.

Each basket is carefully handmade from cane, coated with cow dung, and sun-dried for 3–4 days. It is then smoothed by scraping, layered with red earth, and painted using the same process, creating a beautifully finished piece that honors both craft and ritual.
